NGAM 04 - SUBSTRATE

BAR-M

A novel armour material under development at Mjolner. Purpose-built for NG-body armour, land, and aerospace platforms — engineered from the ground up to deliver exceptional strength-to-weight ratio at ultra-low areal density.

- SYSTEM OVERVIEW

Body armour.

Aerospace.

Ultra-low weight.

BAR-M is not a platform armour material adapted for personal protection. It is developed independently, with the constraints of worn armour as the primary design driver from day one — areal density and rapid form factor.

Engineered as a direct alternative to RHA substrate for STANAG K3 and below, BAR-M delivers equivalent protection at a fraction of the weight — purpose-built for applications where areal density is the binding constraint.

The programme targets standard dismounted threat levels, forming the material basis for Mjolner's NG-ISS programme.

What BAR-M
is designed to do.

Threat Class

Standard dismounted threat levels. NIJ RF2/RF3, VPAM 8/10. STANAG 4569 K1-K3.

Primary Pairing

LAR-C LD + BAR-M

Target Platforms

Next-generation PPE weight and thickness at equivalent protection. Minimal backface deformation.

Effective as stand-alone protection for aviation, ultra-light platforms, and structures without conventional hull armour. Under exploration as a space structural & protection material.

System Integration

BAR-M is the material basis for the MK1 helmet system and MK2 body armour within the NG-ISS integrated survivability programme. The three programmes are developed in parallel as part of Mjolner's personal protection stack.
